What is the latest on the 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension? Last night Max Baucus, Democrat and Finance Committee, said we are "close". What does close mean? Baucus went on to say in regards to the 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension that there is "no announcement yet". Does that mean today, on June 23, 2010--nearly three weeks after the Senate reconvened, the Senate will pass the 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension?
Perhaps it could happen sooner than later. At least we finally have good news for those of us waiting to hear that the 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension will take place. Let's face it. There just hasn't been a lot of good news in regards to such an extension that would help so many people.
It has been an emotional roller coaster ride for many of us. Many of us have expressed anger, sorry and a huge array of emotions at the lack of empathy from our United States Senate. The lack of urgency in passing this 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension has made many of us think and reflect of who we have elected. It's amazing that the United States Senate had an opportunity to make things right and keep the ship afloat--yet they collectively let it sink for three weeks and there still is no definite end in sight.
What did the Senate say in regards to the 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension? It seems the deficit became more important than a potential 1.2 million people going without aid and benefits in a horrible job climate. What kind of Senator would look at the deficit and then look at suffering people and choose the one that isn't human? It just doesn't make sense at all.
Politics may have played a huge role in the lack of urgency and empathy. Perhaps the Republicans wanted to prove a point. They have made it--unfortunately many people are suffering because of this point.
It makes me sad to see all the frightening comments on stories I have written on Associated Content concerning the 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension. People are having a tough go and the United States Senate had an opportunity to prevent that. They had a chance to cut off the bleeding last week. Yet the Senate took their time and fought back and forth on the issue while many continued to suffer. This is obviously not an emergency for those Senators who have voted no. It's absolutely not. The lack of empathy has been startling. Not all of the Senators fought against the bill. There were many who realized the importance of sucha 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension bill. To those, I say thank you for the fight.
