I just had the revelation I should change my blog to Washington, We Have A Problem. I don't want to sound like a broken record--but as I scramble to figure out what to cook for dinner after I maxed out my credit cards in the past three weeks without Unemployment Benefits-I came to the conclusion that it's not me who has the problem. It has to be Washington!
Politics as usual have pretty much guaranteed that I will have to borrow money to survive over the next few weeks. The irony-I will have to borrow to survive. Of course if I were a politician in the Senate I wouldn't borrow--since it would add to my already high deficit. The irony-wow.
I guess if I don't add to my deficit I will miraculously work things out somehow through the good in the world. Seriously, it's ironic that the Senate wants to pass that deficit on down to the 1.2 million people who will be without those benefits this coming week if a 2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension is not passed. There will be many more just like me who will be figuring out ways to muster tuna and hamburger helper to feed the families. And I am probably one of the fortunate ones who had some small amount of savings to help me get through this initial three weeks of political terrorism. Okay, that's a bit drastic-but as a New York Times editorial from June 14 says, our Unemployment Benefits Extension is being held hostage. It's unfortunate for all the good people who have not received the good news that an Unemployment Benefits Extension has been passed today. It seemed as if we were on track to finally have great news--not just good news today. That the Senate had finally righted the ship. A story from San Diego online reports that more struggles took place today in Washington.
Wonder if the Senate is going to fire up the stove to cook tuna helper for their family when they get home?
Hi there, i google info every day trying to find info on how the unemployment extension NOT being passed yet is and i find NOTHING. I finally came across your articles and you have given more infomation in the last few days than in the last month all over the internet. THANK YOU! I have a 2 yr old girl and 10 yr old boy who sit home (my mothers house) and do next to nothing because mommie has no money to make there summer a nice one, thankfully there are a couple of FREE things to do in my town for now and a friend with a pool, but you cant expain to children why we cant go on outtings and to the movies. I hope the Senate comes to their senses soon or removes the unemployment bill from this cluster (and pass it seperately) since its seems it will NOT pass. Keep up the good work on keeping the American Unemployed informed, if not anyone else i appreciate your efforts. Thanks again.
