It crossed my mind many moons ago that the drama on Gene Simmons Family Jewels was staged like a bad episode of The Hills or Laguna Beach. It wasn't until one of the recent episodes that I about spit out my spaghetti watching the show because of the very very bad scenario we were supposed to believe.
Gene was off recording with his band so his wife and sister in law had to make a trip to see if a wine project was in the Kiss leadman's best interest. First, Shannon Tweed and Tracy overflowed their bathtub in the hotel they were staying at and ruined a lady's wedding dress on the floor beneath them. If that wasn't enough, the two went to play golf and ran over the girls fiance on the golf course in one of the worst staged scenes in reality television history. Not only was the camera angle just coincidentally placed in the right place but Shannon and Tracy didn't even seem to hit the guy. It was straight out of the scene of a WWE script. Horrible, horrible, horrible television if you are wanting people to not get distracted and believe what you are actually airing. I have long thought the show was a bit staged but this epic moment only made Gene Simmons Family Jewels seem as if it's writers were caught sleeping.
I still laugh at the show and Gene, however uncharismatic he can be, is still one of the great reality television stars because of his stubborn ways and lack of communication skills.
His kids are hilarious and the producers of the show certainly have some talent to work with.
But why would you make something so out of the realm of possibilities happen to completely distract your viewers? Gene Simmons Family Jewels can be quite fun nevertheless and I must admit I'll still watch on my DVR unless it just gets real outlandish...but please, oh please, Gene, tell the writers to back off the action stunts!
